New Morocco-UK Route Brings Fresher Produce Direct to London Gateway

Morocco Port

A new weekly service connecting Morocco to DP World London Gateway has officially launched, creating a quicker, greener and more reliable way to bring fresh produce into the UK.

The Atlas Service made its first call at London Gateway this week after sailing from Agadir, marking what DP World describes as a major step forward for fresh-produce logistics between North Africa and Europe.

Morocco is already a key supplier to UK and EU retailers, exporting more than 1.1 million tonnes of fruit and vegetables annually. With demand continuing to rise, this new route is arriving at exactly the right time for UK businesses looking for a smoother supply chain.

Why this service is important

DP World says the new connection will help shift more produce from road to sea, cutting emissions by up to 70% while improving speed and reliability.

Rashid Abdulla, Managing Director & CEO of DP World Europe, called it “a major step forward in sustainable logistics,” adding that the new solution “combines speed, reliability and digital transparency to deliver better quality produce to retailers and consumers – while helping our customers meet climate goals.”

The route is expected to move up to 150,000 tonnes of fresh produce a year, with weekly sailings carrying tomatoes, blueberries, peppers, citrus and other goods bound for UK and EU retail networks. To support the service, DP World has invested in more than 1,700 new containers to ensure steady capacity.

UK Trade Envoy Ben Coleman MP also welcomed the launch, describing it as “a clear signal of our shared ambition to deepen trade ties,” and highlighting that new maritime links “strengthen supply chains and unlock export opportunities for UK and Moroccan businesses.”

A boost for UK–Morocco trade

Claus Larner, VP Perishables at DP World, highlighted how the new route supports Morocco’s expanding export sector, noting that “road transport limits its potential” and that the Atlas Service creates “an unbroken supply chain from field to shelf.”

With the sector expected to keep growing by more than 10% year on year, this connection strengthens access for UK buyers and offers a more sustainable alternative to road-based transport.
