Major Traffic Disruption Expected on the A14

A14 Traffic

Significant delays are expected around the A14 tomorrow (Monday 24 November) as a large tractor convoy is scheduled to travel between Ipswich and the Port of Felixstowe as part of a planned farmer protest.

Suffolk Police have confirmed that up to 100 farm tractors will take part in a go-slow demonstration from 10:00 until 16:00, which is likely to cause severe congestion for all traffic heading to and from the port.

The protest is being organised by farmers from across the region to raise concerns about changes to inheritance tax and wider challenges facing the agriculture industry.

Route and Timing

Suffolk Police have published the full route to help motorists and transport operators plan ahead:

  • 10:00 start – Wherstead village, travelling along the A137 into Ipswich
  • Through Wherstead Road, Hawes Street and Vernon Street
  • Joining the A14 eastbound at Junction 57 (Ransomes Europark)
  • Continuing to the end of the Port of Felixstowe Road
  • Circulating around the Dock Gate 1 roundabout, then returning westbound
  • The convoy will then travel back over the Orwell Bridge
  • The route will continue on a repeat loop between A14 Junction 56 (Wherstead) and Felixstowe Dock Gate 1 until the protest concludes at 16:00

Police have stated that tractors will be travelling at approximately 20mph in lane two, allowing vehicles to enter and exit the A14; however, substantial delays should still be expected throughout the day.

Impact on Port Traffic

With both eastbound and westbound loops directly affecting access to the Port of Felixstowe, hauliers should prepare for:

  • Long queues on the A14
  • Slower turnaround times
  • Potential knock-on delays across afternoon and early-evening deliveries
  • Disruption to planned collections and returns from the port

Our team will continue to monitor the situation closely and will keep customers updated should further information be released.

We will be monitoring traffic conditions throughout the day and working closely with our hauliers to minimise any disruption to customer shipments. If any consignments are directly affected, our team will contact you as soon as possible with an update.

Please note: This update is based on information published by Suffolk Police and is accurate as of 23rd November 2025, but the situation may change. Customers should check official sources for the latest updates.
