Following confirmation of Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD) in Spain on 3 October 2025, Great Britain has suspended imports of specific bovine products from Spain.
The restrictions currently apply to:
- live animals
- germplasm
- offal (except diaphragm and masseter muscles)
- raw milk and raw dairy products, including raw colostrum
- certain animal by-products (including hides and skins) unless processed to mitigate the risk of lumpy skin disease
These precautionary measures have been introduced to protect animal health in Great Britain and are in line with similar restrictions already in place for France and Italy, where outbreaks were recorded in June this year.
Businesses involved in the import of milk, dairy, or bovine products from affected regions are advised to review their sourcing arrangements and stay up to date with official updates from DEFRA and APHA.
