Escalation Between Israel and Iran
The escalating conflict between Israel and Iran is beginning to affect global freight operations, most notably in the air freight sector, with growing concerns around potential disruption to sea freight routes as well.
Following Israeli airstrikes on Iranian military and nuclear infrastructure on June 13th, a series of retaliatory threats and safety precautions have triggered significant restrictions across the region.
Air Freight Disruptions
Airspace has now been closed over Israel, Iran, Iraq and Jordan, forcing airlines to ground or reroute thousands of flights. Carriers such as Emirates, Lufthansa, Air France, Delta and Wizz Air have all suspended services or diverted flight paths. These changes are already affecting the movement of air cargo, with delays and cost fluctuations expected to continue in the short term.
Sea Freight Still Moving but Under Watch
While sea freight services remain unaffected for now, the situation is being watched closely. The Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical shipping lanes, has been placed on high alert. Iran has issued warnings about a potential blockade, raising concerns among global shipping operators.
